High Dynamic Range (HDR)
From the Most Brilliant Brights to the Deepest Darks
HDR—or high dynamic range—is designed to show a greater range contrast in an image or video. UHD screens let you really see this difference in picture quality. Because of HDR, images with high contrast can be shown with much greater clarity and more detail in the shadows and highlights. Imagine the visual drama that’s delivered when the deepest darks meet up with the most brilliant, brightest white possible. That’s the formula for the gorgeous, dramatic contrast and greater detail offered by UHD Premium’s HDR imagery. You’ll no longer have to strain to see what’s going on in those darker movie scenes because HDR helps imagery pop right off of the screen for the ultimate visually immersive experience. UHD Premium’s standards for HDR truly elevate the viewer’s experience from awesome to ultra-awesome.
To bear the Mobile HDR Premium™ logo, brightness and black level performance must range from a minimum of 0.0005–540 ‘nits’ for mobile phones or tablets and .0005–540 nits or 0.1–600 nits for laptops.

Color Bit Depth
Richer, More Natural Color Transitions
Color bit depth represents the amount of detail used to describe colors. Think of bit depth as the number of possible shades of each color. The higher the bit depth, the more natural the transition between colors. 4K UHD’s higher bit depth combined with the wider color spectrum offer more saturated color and transitions that are more natural. The Premium color bit depth standard for UHD is 10-bit, which allows presentation of more than 1 billion colors.
To bear the Mobile HDR Premium™ logo, a minimum 10-bit color depth must be supported.
